Tiger Woods sets comeback at Safeway Open

Woods' last appearance was at the "Wyndham Championship" in August 2015.

After a year of absent due to back injury, the 40-year old plans to play in the "Safeway Open" in Napa, California. This month he will be a non-playing vice-captain for the US Ryder Cup team at Hazeltine.

"My hope is to have my game ready to go. Whether I can play depends on my continued progress and recovery," he told BBC.

He also hinted to compete in November for the "Turkish Airlines Open" and in Bahamas' "Hero World Challenge" in December.

Woods is now ranked 711th in PGA, after injury and poor performance brought him down low.

His injury began on Nov. 27, 2009 when he was brought to a hospital after a car crash, according to Reuters, prompting him to withdraw from Chevron World Challenge few days later.

His career further went down after he confessed his infidelity with many women. Following his confession, some companies that endorsed him re-examined their contract, including Accenture, AT&T, Gatorade, General Motors, Gillette and TAG Heuer.

These companies either ended or suspended their advertising contract with him.

He tried to save his marriage and career, but failed to do both.

In 2010, Woods and his wife Elin Nordegren agreed to divorce and shared parenting of their two children, Sam and Charlie.

Early this week, his ex-wife was spotted to date musician Gavin Rossdale in LA.

Woods hopes to return to his best form when became the number one golfer in 1997 to 2004. He will start by competing in Safeway Open next month in California.
