The PlayStation 4 from Sony was one of, if not the, hottest selling item of the holiday season. Many are just digging into the meat of what their shiny brand new gaming system can do and likely have a lot of questions. One of the most pressing may be if there is a way to take some of their favorite games form their previous-generation console and port them over to the PlayStation 4. Luckily, that is possible for a discounted price and the folks at IGN have told us how.
To upgrade a PlayStation 3 game to PlayStation 4 digitally will only cost you $9.99. Although that seems like a lot for a game you've already paid money for, it's better than simply having to drop another $60 on the PlayStation 4 retail copy.
To do this, simply log on to your PlayStation Network tab on your PS3 system menu. Once there, click "Account Information," and go to "Redeem Codes." Enter the code contained within your boxed game copy. Continue through the menus and confirm. If you have already bought the game digitally, transferring over to the PlayStation 4 version will require no effort at all. Simply go onto the store over the game you have purchased on the PS3 and it should show up as being available for $9.99.
From there, simply switch to the PS4 and log into the PlayStation Store. Scroll the left bar down to PS3 to PS4. Select your game, then add to cart, make sure you check the price difference and ensure that it is correct. You should have no need to spend more than $9.99 for this process. Select Purchase and your transfer will be complete and you can get back to the game you love on your brand new console.
If you've bought a boxed copy of the game, you will need that disc in order to play it on the PlayStatoin 4. After buying the game on the PlayStation Store for $9.99, you'll need to insert the PS3 disc into your PS4 and then start the game up.
Currently "Battlefield 4," "Call of Duty: Ghosts," "Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag" and "Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition" are available for upgrade. The program is offered for a limited time and codes must be redeemed before its expiration date. So, its very inadvisable to wait to get this done, even if you don't plan on playing the game right away. The expiration dates for the games are around the end of March, 2014.
