The first part of Netflix musical drama series "The Get Down", featuring Jaden Smith, did not perform well, therefore rumor about the series cancellation is circulating lately. But one producer denied it and said that the series remains on the go till the next season.
Supervising producer Nelson George said the reports about the series cancellation are false, as reported by Okay Player.
George went further by posting the affirmation in his Facebook page:
"Yo The Get Down has not been cancelled. Please don't forward that silly report. Our status will be determined next year. Part two comes this spring."
The rumor about the series cancellation first appeared on Sept. 24. Movie News Guide claimed that budget problem and low reception may have prompted Netflix to cancel the series.
With $120 million in production cost, "The Get Down" only acquired 3.2 million viewers in Part 1, which consist of six episodes.
While according to Variety, another Netflix's series gained more than twice viewers than the series. "Orange is the New Black" garnered 15.56 million viewers, while "Stranger Things" reached 13.23 million audience.
Even a much lower budgeted series such as "Making a Murderer" gained 12.28 million viewers.
Overall, 'The Get Down" only recorded a total of 22.2 million demand expressions in U.S. consumers. Far below from the famous series such as HBO's "Game of Thrones" with 43.7 million, and Netflix "Stranger Things" 38.9 million.
The first part of "The Get Down" followed the story of Ezekiel "Zeke" Figuero in his young age, played by Jaden Smith. He is an aspiring rapper who lives in Bronx, New York City. The story starts from Zeke's school day in 1977.
