A new rumor form the Apple iPad mill has surfaced suggesting that the next step for the company's tablet lineup will be a massive 2K resolution display with eye-tracking technology. However, is it even possible for this rumor to be true?
The initial reports seesm to come from the International Business Times citing a Foxconn insider who is reportedly leaking information regarding some features in Apple's next generation of iPads.
The next device would sport a 12.9-inch screen and be the company's way of giving people a tablet or surface-like option instead of the typical MacBook and MacBook Air options. The logic behind this rumor is simply that Apple would not have named its latest iPad after one of its laptop devices had it not been planning to overlap and give its tablets some of its laptop technology and prowess. A powerful tablet with a beefy display screen that would require 2k display. This will remove the coveted Retina display technology from the iPad lineup.
According to the report, Apple has been among the last to adopt the hybrid technology concept in its devices. The device will be geared toward the professional world and is expected to be unveiled in he fall. The site's source in Foxconn says the company wanted to go for a winter or spring release of the tablet.
The report suggests that Apple will begin by releasing a 2k display version followed by a 4k display version. As for the eye-tracker technology, there's no word yet on just how that will be implemented.
While these rumors sound like they're promising, many in the tech community are taking them with a grain of salt. As TodaysiPhone's latest article on the matter suggests, it's very much not like Apple to abandon something like the Retina display that it has been working on for years in favor of a universal standard format. As for the eye-tracker, many believe that the only reason that's made the rumor mill for Apple is because its rival Samsung has it and many think the company will simply copy what's worked for its competitors, however, that's not really Apple's style.
