Robert Downey Jr. is reportedly trying to get his friends Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster cast in the movie "Avengers," a source told Radar Online. Reportedly Downey has signed on to make two more "Avengers" films and possibly do future movies for the "Iron Man" franchise.
"Robert is raising eyebrows with his efforts on behalf of his longtime best pals Jodie Foster and Mel Gibson," the source said. "He wants to bring Mel and Jodie into the Marvel universe, preferably in one of the 'Avenges' films. It's been a longtime dream of Robert's to help Mel and Jodie reach similar big box office heights like the one's he achieved in recent years."
Downey is credited for helping his Hollywood pals in the past. It's been said that he had something to do with Gwyneth Paltrow landing a role in the "Avengers" and Ashley Hamilton and "Iron Man 3" director Shane Black have also said that the 48-year-old actor helped them get hired.
"Robert is very big into working with his friends," the source told Radar adding that his idea to cast Foster might not be a problem but "Mel is a far different story."
Gibson has faced some very controversial problems in the past which would probably make it difficult for him to be cast - or even considered - for the movie. According to Radar, this is the second time Downey has tried to land a big role for Gibson. He previously tossed around the idea of the "Braveheart" actor playing the U.S. President in "Iron Man 3" "but that idea was shot down."
It's not clear if Downey wants Foster and Gibson in the "Avengers: Age of Ultron" movie or in "Avengers 3."
"Marvel is run by one of the richest and most prominent Israeli businessman in Hollywood, and you can be sure even if Robert got down on his knees and begged, there's no place for Mel in the Marvel films."
