The San Francisco 49ers is one of the favorite teams in the history of NFL. Having won 5 Super Bowl championships, 6 conference championship, 19 division championship in 26 playoff appearances, the team never fail to impress fans around the league.
But for the past few season, they are struggling to get their game going and the last time they are in the playoffs was in 2013. For this season, they currently holding a dismal 1-6 record and many believe that they will miss again the playoffs.
After their starting QB Colin Kaepernick was linked to being on the move to the other teams, another team member seems to be on his way out also. According to NFL.com, the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers are in deep discussion regarding a trade deal involving 49ers wide receiver Torrey Smith.
The report also says that the 49ers seem to be in the rebuilding mode and looking to unload some of their high-priced veteran before the November 1 NFL trade deadline. Aside from Kaepernick and Smith, the latest buzz is also saying that five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Staley was also linked in trade talks but the 49ers organization deny any deal with him as per stated in the report.
Torrey Smith hasn't produced big numbers for the 49ers after signing him in 2015 to a five-year $40 million contract. He's been a disappointment with the team having only 13 catches so far this season and might just tie his total of 33 catches last season.
On the separate report by Niners Nation, the Eagles are playing a tremendous season so far holding a 4-2 record after beating the undefeated Minnesota Vikings last Sunday. Eagles starting QB Carson Wentz are making plays perfectly however their current receivers Jordan Matthews and Nelson Agholor are not performing well so far.
By adding a speedster like Smith, it could make Wentz's job easier by locating him on intermediate and deep end of the field as per stated in the report. Trading Smith could also solve the 49ers problems on their salary and free some cap space in the process. However, there's no asset the Eagles could give to the 49ers in return.
Will the San Francisco 49ers release Torrey Smith to the Philadelphia Eagles?
