Details about the annual Call of Duty Championship have been formally announced for 2014. The event will take place in Los Angeles in March and the entire competition will be played on and powered by the Xbox One from Microsoft for the first time in the competition's history.
According to IGN the competition will be much like last year's Black Ops II event, this time the game of choice will be the newest installment in the franchise, EA and Infinity Ward's "Call of Duty: Ghosts. 32 teams will compete head-to-head for a $1 million prize. Those teams will come together from all around the world with 13 coming form the Americas, 13 from Europe, four from the Asia Pacific region and two teams from Africa and the Middle East. These will be the countries and teams that make up the final list of competitors.
In order for your "Call of Duty" team to make it to the L.A. competition in March, they will need to first survive a series of qualifiers set to begin taking place later this month that will continue into February. This will conclude the regional set of finals. Details on how to qualify can be found HERE via Major League Gaming's website.
These qualifier tournaments will be played on the Xbox 360, with the various regional finals and the championship itself going to be played on the updated next-generation console, the Xbox One. According to Activision, this makes it the first official competitive Call of Duty event to ever be played on the Xbox One (due in large part to the fact that it's the first competition that could possibly be played on the Xbox One).
The regional finals will b streamed live on MLG.tv and Xbox Live in late February and early March, according to IGN. Fariko Impact won the competition last year for Black Ops II. This year the competition will be streamed online as well and is set to kick off between March 28-30.
