Gerard Butler On Board to Star In 'Point Break' Remake, Will Keanu Reeves Reprise His Role?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gerard Butler is reportedly on board to star in a remake of the 1991 Kathryn Bigelow surf crime, "Point Break," set to play the role of Bodhi originally assumed by the late Patrick Swayze.

The 44-year-old "Chasing Mavericks" actor will once again take on the role of a surfer, filming slated to begin sometime this summer. The film will be directed for Alcon Entertainment by Ericson Core, with a new screenplay written by Kurt Wimmer. Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove will be producing along with Michael DeLuca, John Baldecchi, Chris Taylor and Wimmer.

The story follows an FBI agent named Johnny Utah attempting to infiltrate a crime ring with the help of extreme sports expert Bodhi who "seeks nirvana through a conquest of athletic feats such as surfing 100-foot waves," according to THR. With his lean, toned frame, Butler is said to have been the first choice for the role.

As for the role Johnny Utah, originally played by Keanu Reeves, has not yet been cast, and last month, the 49-year-old actor told BBC 5 that he will not be reprising the role.

"It's not my place," Reeves said, adding, "If they can find a way to do it that works out good, then God bless them."
