According to the latest rumors, AMD is preparing to launch its Zen based Summit Ridge desktop processors on 17th of January 2017.
The latest rumor surrounding AMD's much-hyped Zen architecture has been confirmed now. The latest source for information comes from Baidu, where a user claims to have spoken with someone who worked at motherboard maker Maxon for finding out what's happening.
They also claims that the first Zen chips will be the part of AMD's SR7 range and will cost somewhere between $200 and $300 apiece.
This leak is backed up by AMD's own official statements, which previously said that high-end desktop parts would be the first Zen components to be released. The pricing doesn't seem particularly high end but reports indicate that AMD will also offer some overclocked chips for as much as $500, reports Digital Trends.
Advanced Micro Devices will be taking Intel Corporation head on with Zen. Intel is going to release its seventh generation Kaby Lake processors during the same period but despite Intel's lead in the CPU market, the hype around Zen architecture is much more.
The upcoming Zen processors will feature eight physical cores and 16 virtual threads which is capable of delivering performance similar to Intel's Core i7-6850K processor.
In a leaked Cinebench rendering test result, the AMD Summit Ridge processor also have achieve scores that are identical to the Intel processor, which is significantly more expensive at $600.
Users who require higher performance for them AMD is also offering the special overclocking variants as well, which are going to be priced higher than $500.
The 3GHz engineering Zen sample used in the aforesaid test has been improved since, with first-generation chips set to come with speeds up to 3.3GHz base and 3.5GHz boosted. Overclocking will let users take their systems up to over 4Ghz.
The second range of lower-end Zen chipsets and motherboards will be arriving in the March, so presumably that's when we'll see the SR5 and SR3 Zen chips.
