WWE Rumors: John Cena to battle AJ Styles or The Undertaker in WWE Championship match; Will he join Royal Rumble 2017?

John Cena has been having a busy year so far. In the past, he is mostly busy fighting inside the ring in WWE. But this year, he is spending more time in doing projects outside the WWE.

This is actually the first time that Cena, a 15-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion, has appeared in less than 50 matches in a year. He missed the first five months of the year because of an injury. But since recovering from the injury, he spent most of his time working on a non-related WWE project. And right now, he is busy shooting a TV show called American Grit.

But although his schedule is filled with projects outside the WWE, a rumor says that he will be back in the ring very soon. According to Inquisitr, John Cena is scheduled to be back in WWE on December 26. The return of Cena will be held at one of the most famous arenas in the world, Madison Square Garden in New York City.

After the event in Madison Square Garden, Cena is expected to chase another WWE Championship. Cena currently has fifteen WWE world title wins. If he wins another one, he will tie Ric Flair's record of 16 WWE titles.

There has been a lot of speculations about whom he is gonna fight. One rumor is that Cena will fight AJ Styles for the WWE Championship match. With his feud against Dean Ambrose appears to be over, Styles is looking for a new opponent to challenge him. Cena and The Undertaker are the best candidates for being AJ Styles' new challenger for his title.

Another rumor is that Cena will fight against The Undertaker in Wrestmania. The only question there is whether that fight will be for a WWE Championship. Cena is chasing WWE history for the most number of titles. He just needs one to tie Ric Blair's record for the most number of WWE Championship in the history.

If Cena's fight against AJ Styles will push through and Cena somehow manage to win that match, he will get the record. If that happens, the WWE management has to decide whether they would allow Cena to carry the title to Wrestmania. Because in 2017, Cena will again be very busy with non-related WWE projects as he is bound to shoot two movies next year.

In another rumor, it is also speculated that Cena will participate in the WWE Royal Rumble next year. According to another article in Inquisitr, it is said that Cena is one of the top three favorites to win the 2017 Royal Rumble, together with Chris Jericho and Finn Balor. Since Balor is recovering a shoulder injury that he suffered way back in August, he isn't expected to participate in Royal Rumble. That leaves Jericho and Cena as top contenders to win the event.

But as of this moment, no confirmation has been made. Although very possible, it is still uncertain whether Cena will participate in the Royal Rumble. Aside from that, Cena will be more involved into making movies next year. He is 39 and focusing more on doing non-WWE-related projects makes sense.
