Right now there don't seem to be any plans for a standalone Hulk movie starring Mark Ruffalo from "The Avengers." However, if one were to exist, Ruffalo recently said in an interview that he would like the plot to focus around being green. No, not like that. The actor would want the film to carry an eco-friendly message to its audience.
Speaking with Total Film during the Sundance Film Festival, the Hulk actor elaborated on the potential the film would have to raise awareness of issues that are important to him such as fracking, sustainability, practical and cost-effective environmental change.
"As artists, we have an ability to reach a lot of people in a deep way, and we have a responsibility," he said. "What we have to do as storytellers is to take science and make it relatable. I think we have to tell the story of the positive and what we're going to try to do. Give them alternatives but don't make it polemic."
Ruffalo will reprise his role as Bruce Banner, better known as the big green monster "The Hulk," in Joss Whedon's 2015 adventure sequel, "Avengers: Age of Ultron."
According to IGN, Marvel boss Kevin Feige said fans can expect to see a lot more of the Hulk in Joss Whedon's sequel, noting that the first movie secured him as a fan favorite. However, while his part is described as being a bit meatier, Ruffalo concedes that it is not large enough to really make any kind of impact with his message.
"I'm in The Avengers, but if you took my screentime it would come to about ten minutes, along with the 12 other people I'm sharing the screen with, so my input's kind of limited on that. But if we get a standalone Hulk movie, I'll have a much better chance to do that. I'm just learning now how to find my voice and bring it into the studio world."
