Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, the space transport services company has revealed his plans to colonize Mars. Shedding light on the mission, he said that he aims to create a self-sustainable city on Mars, with a population of around 1 million people.
Elon Musk has made public his Mars colonization plans. According to The Science Times, the SpaceX CEO has published some details of his plans on the forum Reddit. In one Reddit thread, he made it known that he intends to take a million people to Mars in the next 100 years and he wants to do it through a sequential process that includes exploring the Mars surface, planting a fuel-production factory over there and shooting off some explorers to check out the developments.
Elon Musk has mentioned all the details of his Mars colonization mission in his 15-page plan that is titled "Making Humans a Multi-Planetary Species." The billionaire entrepreneur seems upbeat about his mission and though he has not given any time frame for the plans to get into execution mode, he is hopeful of sending people to Mars by 2023. However, his ultimate goal is to build a self-sustainable city on the Red Planet, the Observer has learned.
Speaking to the media at the Kennedy Space Center, Musk said that he will post an update about the design of the Interplanetary Transport System soon. He also revealed that his company has created many design refinements of the architecture needed to build a city on the Red Planet and an update will be made available on the company website pretty soon.
Elon Musk also shed light on how the city would be created. He said that to inhabit a population of 1 million, 10, 000 trips of 100 people each would do the job. He also said that they may reduce the cost of the flight per person in future by taking 200 people on each flight. It is worth mentioning here that after successfully reusing a rocket for its space mission, people have begun to harbor high hopes from Elon Musk and his company SpaceX regarding the Mars mission.
