King Charles has offered Princess Anne and Prince Edward a new post instead of demoting Prince Andrew and Prince Harry from an important royal position.

The King plans to increase the number of "counsellors of state" who can fulfill constitutional obligations while the monarch is away or ill.

King Charles III's Soft Spot For Prince Harry, Prince Andrew

The four most senior royal adults Prince William, Prince Harry, Prince Andrew, and Princess Beatrice as well as Camilla, the Queen Consort, make up the current group of five senior royals in office, as per The Sun.

According to royal commentator Robert Hardman, King Charles III may prevent the Dukes of Sussex and York from carrying out their constitutional obligations, which could lead to constitutional reform. In a few weeks, proposals might make their way to the House of Commons after being considered.

With the proposed changes, the King would be able to delegate constitutional problems to other members of the royal family, such as his sister Princess Anne and younger brother Prince Edward, when he is away from home. Counsellors of state, which are made up of the four oldest individuals in the succession line and a monarch's consort, are authorized to conduct official business.

Royal watchers have recently noted that it would not be proper for Prince Harry and the Duke of York to continue in their roles as Counsellors of State given they had both resigned from their respective royal responsibilities for different reasons, Express reported.

Prince Harry, Prince Andrew's New Royal Role Was Questioned

However, this week in the House of Lords there were concerns raised on the requirement to revise the eligibility requirements. Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, and Prince Andrew, Duke of York, were two of the five replacement candidates. Despite the fact that one had abandoned public life and the other had leave the nation, Labour peer Viscount Stansgate questioned how they could be.

Any modification will necessitate changing the Regency Act, which is overseen by the Cabinet Office, but there seems to be support for this constitutional revision. Instead of eliminating Prince Andrew and Prince Harry, it is anticipated that the answer will be to increase the number of royals who may speak for the monarch, creating a more flexible roster of available working royals.

The necessity for stand-ins to be in place in 2023, when both the King and Queen Consort and the Prince and Princess of Wales may be traveling abroad, may result in modifications later this year, depending on the legislative timetable, as per BBC.

Additionally, on October 25, 2022, two House of Lords lawmakers declared their intention to amend the 1937 Regency Act. Otherwise, Viscount Stansgate said, Are the Government satisfied to continue with a situation where the Duke of York or the Duke of Sussex, one of whom has left public life and the other of whom has left the nation, may exercise the counsels of state and regency powers?

A new Counsellor of State will be somebody who genuinely fulfills royal duties, or at least some part of them, at now, according to Lord Addington. This requirement makes it easier for Princess Anne and Prince Edward to accept the position.

Additionally, the general population is in favor of them. In a poll conducted by Express in September 2022, readers chose Anne as their top candidate for Counselor (27%), just ahead of Prince William (26%), who is already a Counselor. Third place with 24% went to Edward. Prince Andrew received considerably less, and Prince Harry received just 1%.

The late Queen Elizabeth II was informed of these intentions and agreed to them. Given Prince Harry's separation with the royal family, Newsweek questioned if it would be appropriate for King Charles III to remove his younger son from the position.

Dr. Craig Prescott, a constitutional expert, claims that Prince Harry and Prince Andrew might simply decide not to act because only two people must act together, according to The List via MSN.
