Bud Light's new advertisement features Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce alongside other less athletic men.
The 15-second promotional video is one of Bud Light's first ads since its controversial collaboration with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.
Bud Light's New Ad Features NFL Star Travis Kelce
In a move aimed at captivating football fans and beer enthusiasts alike, Bud Light enlisted NFL star Kelce to star in its latest advertising campaign. As per Business Insider, the new ad, which attempts to win back conservatives or right-wingers, aired on the eve of the Fourth of July holiday.
The ad, entitled "Backyard Grunts," features Kelce and a group of men grunting and groaning as they settle into lawn chairs with Bud Light cans in hand.
The partnership with the Kansas City Chiefs star comes on the heels of a recent controversy involving conservative critics aiming Bud Light for their previous collaboration with a trans influencer.
In the new ad, Bud Light appears to be trying to appeal to a more traditional male audience. The ad features men in their 30s and 40s, who are shown enjoying cans of alcoholic drinks in a backyard setting.
Interestingly, the 15-seconder ad skips on any dialogue. Instead, the men only blurted out grunts and sighs. Meanwhile, Kelce says, "Yeah."However, it is worth mentioning that the NFL star never actually touched or drank a Bud Light can during the short clip.
Bud Light Tries to Win Back Conservatives After Dylan Mulvaney Backlash
The ad comes after Bud Light faced backlash in April for partnering with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. The previous partnership hinted that the famous beer brand was trying to appeal to the LGBTQ community. Yet, some conservative drinkers felt alienated. In response, right-wingers launched a widespread boycott campaign, slumping the sales of America's once-best-selling beer brand.
It is hard to say whether the ad will be enough to win back conservative drinkers, which The New York Post says Bud Light lost in the past three months. However, the ad is certainly more in line with Bud Light's traditional marketing style. Not to mention it features a more traditional male audience.
As OutKick notes, the latest ad is funny and non-political. Instead, it merely shows a bunch of dudes enjoying their thirst-quenching drinks in the middle of a sunny day.
Only time will tell whether the ad will be enough to turn things around for Bud Light. However, the ad is certainly a sign that the beer brand is trying to appeal to a more conservative audience.
