An Egypt spy chief claims that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was already given repeated warnings regarding the Hamas attack.
However, the Israeli leader allegedly ignored their warning. Because of this, Netanyahu is now criticized since they were not able to predict the Hamas attack despite Israel being known for its effective intelligence prowess.
Netanyahu Denies Egypt's Repeated Hamas Attack Warning Claims
According to The Daily Beast's latest report, Netanyahu was allegedly warned about an impending "big" strike by the Hamas group before the brutal attacks on Oct. 7, killing hundreds of Israelis and injuring thousands of them.
This shocking detail was shared by an Egyptian spy chief, who spoke on condition of anonymity since he wasn't allowed to discuss the sensitive intelligence discussions with the media.
The Egyptian intelligence official said that Jerusalem ignored their warnings that the Hamas terrorist organization was planning "something big" against Israel.
"We have warned them an explosion of the situation is coming, and very soon, and it would be big. But they underestimated such warnings," said the anonymous Egyptian spy chief.
But, Netanyahu denied this claim, saying that the information shared by the Egypt intelligence leader was "fake news."
"No early message came from Egypt and the prime minister did not speak or meet with the intelligence chief since the establishment of the government - not indirectly or directly," said the Israeli prime minister's office.
However, in one of the warnings, Egypt's Intelligence Minister General Abbas Kamel reportedly called Netanyahu 10 days before the massive Hamas attack. Some Egyptian officials also said that they were surprised after Netanyahu ignored warnings.
Israel's Intelligence Prowess Now Questioned
The Associated Press reported that Israel's intelligence prowess is considered to be formidable because of a string of achievements.
These include foiling plots set in the West Bank, assassinating Iranian nuclear scientists in Iran, as well as hunting down Hamas operatives in Dubai.
But, the tragedy that the recent Hamas attack created has tainted the reputation of Israel's intelligence operation efficiency.
Ex-national security adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Yaakov Amidror, said that what happened was a major failure for the Israeli government.
He added that the deadly Hamas attack is proof that the intelligence capabilities of Israel in Gaza were no good at all. Although Amidror didn't provide any specific explanation regarding the failure, he's still optimistic that Israel will learn from this mistake once the commotion settles down.
