Missouri Teen Slammed Into Pavement in Viral Brawl Is Finally Recovering

Kaylee Gain is now able to walk with little to no assistance

The family of the Missouri teen who was brutally beaten unconscious during a viral schoolyard fight says she is improving rapidly.

Kaylee Gain, 15, was attacked near her school and her head was smashed into the road by another girl. Kaylee spent days in a coma in an intensive care unit after the attack, and her family was initially concerned she wouldn't live.

"We have been truly amazed by the progress she has made in such a short time," her father Clint Gain said in an update on a GoFundMe page for Kaylee. "Physically, she is doing well, walking with little to no assistance, but must wear a helmet for her safety as she is still missing her bone flap."

"There is still a lot of work she will need to do in order to get fully back to herself prior to the incident," he added. "Kaylee will continue to have PT/OT therapy as well speech and counseling to help her through this traumatic experience."

Kaylee was savagely beaten by another teen girl on March 8 near Hazelwood East High School in St. Louis. A video of the incident went viral.

It's unclear what led up to the brawl.

The teen suspect, who has not been publicly identified due to her age, has been charged as a juvenile with assault. Gain's family however, wants the suspect to be charged as an adult.

"Given the particularly violent nature of this assault, and also taking into account the devastating injuries that Kaylee has incurred, it is difficult to imagine a more appropriate case for a juvenile to be certified as an adult," the family said in a statement released by their attorney, Bryan Kaemmerer.

"We are so grateful for the support and prayers. The power of prayer is truly seen through her recovery so far. We thank you all so much!" said Clint Gain.
