A Missouri woman who is accused of killing and decapitating her son has been ruled fit to stand trial.
Tasha Haefs is accused of killing her 6-year-old son Karvel Stevens in 2022 and also killing the family dog.
A judge granted a motion on Friday deeming her mentally competent to be tried for murder.
Haefs is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action.
Police showed up at the home after a woman told a 911 dispatcher the devil was trying to attack her, KMBC-TV reported.
Police found what appeared to be blood on the front steps and they could hear a woman singing inside.
As they knocked, the singing grew louder. An officer looked through a window and saw the severed head near the front door.
They forced their way inside and found Haefs with blood on her legs and feet. They also found the rest of the boy's body, KCTV reported.
The decapitated dog was found in the basement.
Court documents claim that Haefs admitted during a police interview to killing her son in the bathtub and then decapitating him.
Haefs was ordered to be committed to a mental health facility for at least six months after the killing and was initially ruled to not be competent to stand trial.
She is due back in court on Monday, April 29, 2024.
