A former cop in Washington state is believed to be on the run and may be headed to Mexico after allegedly killing his ex-wife and 17-year-old girlfriend while facing a rape charge.
Elias Huizar, 39, is also suspected of abducting his 1-year-old son, Roman, according to an Amber Alert issued by the Washington State Patrol on Monday night.
Authorities have said the fugitive ex-cop should be considered armed and dangerous, according to the Tri-City Herald, which identified Roman's mother as the slain girlfriend.
Huizar, who was a police officer in Yakima, Washington, from 2014 to 2022, is accused of fatally shooting ex-wife Amber Rodriguez, a paraeducator, outside the school where she worked as students were being dismissed around 3:20 p.m. Monday.
Chris Worley, who lives near the William Wiley Elementary School in West Richland, Washington, told the Tri-City Herald said he was in his backyard at the time and heard four or five shots.
"I thought it was someone hitting something with a hammer. It didn't sound like a gun," Worley said. "Then a woman came flying out here before the cops even got here and started screaming that someone was shot."
Authorities later searched Huizar's home, on the same block of the school, and found the body of his girlfriend, who relatives identified as Angelica Santos, according to the New York Post.
The rape charge against Huizar was filed Feb. 3 and involves an alleged attack on a friend of Santos' after the teenage victim passed out following a night of drinking with the couple.
Huizar's relationship with Santos was also being investigated to determine whether she was underage it began, according to the Tri-City Herald.
In addition to his child with Santos, Huizar had two sons with Rodriguez before they divorced in 2020 and she filed a for an order of protection following his rape arrest.
On Friday, Rodriguez filed for a change in custody of their kids, ages 5 and 9, the Tri-City Herald said, citing court documents.
