Florida Teen Accidentally Kills 11-Year-Old Brother While 'Playing' With Handgun

Police said the victim's brother claimed he found the firearm in a nearby alley and hid it in their home without the family's knowledge

An 11-year-old boy died after his teen brother allegedly admitted he accidentally shot him while "playing" with a stolen handgun.

Amir Williams was pronounced dead at the scene at his family's St. Petersburg, Florida, home Friday, according to police.

Amir's 14-year-old brother allegedly told police he unintentionally fired off the gun while "playing" with it, striking his sibling.

Their 13-year-old sister was also home at the time.

The gun was reported stolen two days before the incident. Police said Amir's brother claimed he found the firearm in a nearby alley and hid it in their home without the family's knowledge, according to WFLA-TV.

The children's mother was reportedly out at the time of the incident, and got into a car crash on the drive back. It's unclear if she sustained any injuries but called a rideshare to drive her home.

"Amir was a good kid," his uncle, Darryl Walls, told the station. "He had so much potential. I hate to see so much potential be gone so soon."

It's unclear if the brother will face charges. The case remains under investigation.
