The Missouri teen who was beaten until comatose in a viral school brawl is now living at home following a month-long hospital stay and two weeks at an in-patient rehab facility.

Kaylee Gain, 16, suffers ongoing memory loss and is forced to wear a helmet after undergoing the removal of part of her skull in an effort to relieve pressure from her brain, family attorney Bryan Kaemmerer said in a statement Thursday.

Kaylee is scheduled to undergo another surgery to reattach the part of her skull that was removed, which will precipitate another hospital stay.

As part of her recovery, the teen spends several days a week in speech and physical therapies and "continues to meet with a counselor to assist with her mental well-being as she copes with the trauma, fear and pain that have arisen from this incident," said Kaemmerer.

Kaylee was savagely beaten by another teen girl on March 8 near Hazelwood East High School in St. Louis. A video of the incident went viral.

It's unclear what led up to the brawl.

The teen suspect, who has not been publicly identified due to her age, has been charged as a juvenile with assault. Kaylee's family however, wants the suspect to be charged as an adult.

"Given the particularly violent nature of this assault, and also taking into account the devastating injuries that Kaylee has incurred, it is difficult to imagine a more appropriate case for a juvenile to be certified as an adult," Kaemmerer previously said.
