Legendary basketball player Bill Walton has died at the age of 71 after a lengthy battle with cancer, according to the NBA.
The league shared a statement on Monday confirming Walton's death, adding that he was surrounded by family.
"Bill Walton was truly one of a kind," NBA commissioner Adam Silver said. "As a Hall of Fame player, he redefined the center position. His unique all-around skills made him a dominant force at UCLA and led to an NBA regular-season and Finals MVP, two NBA championships and a spot on the NBA's 50th and 75th Anniversary Teams."
The two-time NBA champion played 468 games with three teams including the Portland Trailblazers, the then-San Diego Clippers and the Boston Celtics. He won his two championships, one in 1977 with Portland and another in 1986 with the Celtics.
