3-Year-Old Dies After Random Stabbing Outside Ohio Grocery Store: ‘Deeply Saddened’

The suspect allegedly ran into the toddler and his mother with a knife

An Ohio woman was taken into custody Tuesday after she allegedly stabbed a three-year-old to death, in what law enforcement believes was a random attack.

The suspect allegedly ran into the toddler and his mother with a knife, as they left a Great Eagle grocery store in North Olmsted, Ohio. Multiple officers took the suspect - 32-year-old Bionca Ellis, of Cleveland - into custody.

The child, who the Cuyahoga County medical examiner identified as Julian Wood, succumbed to his injuries while in the hospital.

North Olmsted Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones released a statement on the incident, before it was confirmed that the three-year-old had died.

"I am deeply saddened by an incident this afternoon in the parking lot of the North Olmsted Giant Eagle Supermarket," she said.

"Both mother and child were immediately transported to St. John Medical Center," she said. "Our heart goes out to the victims of what appears to be a random act of violence."

Information about the mother's identity and condition has not been released to the public.
