A Mississippi mother says her daughter is mentally ill and needs help after she allegedly stabbed her while she slept and tried to burn her alive on her birthday.
The Gulfport Police arrested 15-year-old Lexi Jade Brown on attempted murder and arson charges.
They said that about 2:30 a.m. on June 14 she went into her mother's bedroom and started repeatedly stabbing her. She then attempted to start a fire in the home.
The mother, who identified herself as Brooke McManus on Facebook, was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Detectives say when they questioned Brown she said she planned the killing because she found her to be a "weird bitch" and accused her of "suppressing the black in her."
Brown was being held in the Harrison County Adult Detention Center on a $1.25M bond.
But her mother says her daughter is hearing voices and has been in and out of psychiatrist offices, therapist offices and mental health centers for a long time.
"Nobody was prepared for what she did to me"
"I've gone above and beyond for my kids to make sure they have everything they've ever wanted and needed," McManus said in a Facebook post.
"I've been a full time single parent their entire lives I've taken them places bought them things made wonderful memories with them as a family but nobody was prepared for what she did to me."
McManus says she is trying to get her daughter moved to a mental hospital from the jail.
"She was just a sick little girl that no amount of trying to help her on part could work," she wrote. "Please keep all 3 of my children and my family in your prayers as we move forward in this difficult time."
