A Florida-based rapper who went by Julio Foolio was gunned down at a Tampa Holiday Inn, according to his lawyer.
The rapper, whose real name is Charles Jones, was celebrating his 26th birthday, Lewis Fusco told WJXT-TV.
He had been at an Airbnb but was forced to leave because there were too many people inside.
Fusco said Foolio got a room at the Holiday but was "basically ambushed" in the parking lot.
The Tampa Police say they got the call at about 4:40 a.m. and found two vehicles that had been shot at in the parking lot and four shooting victims.
They said one, believed to be Charles Jones, was dead and three others were in stable condition at a hospital.
Police said the Medical Examiner's Office would confirm the victim as Jones.
What led up to the shooting and any possible suspects was still being determined.
Jones was known for so-called "drill rap" videos with lyrics about murders involving rival gangs, according to the WJXT-TV report.
