"The Walking Dead" showrunner Scott Gimple appeared on "Larry King Now" as part of Showrunner Week to dish on Season 5 of the AMC show, Comicbook reports. . Gimple didn't give away too many details but did promise that viewers will see a lot more action than usual.
"The story that we're telling demands it. We're not going to shy away from characters, but the balance will be a little more towards action," Gimple told King.
Season 4 ended with Rick Grimes and co. trapped in a freight car at Terminus, the supposed sanctuary. There have been rumors that Terminus is actually the home of the cannibals. Even though the upcoming season will be dark and action-packed, Gimple told King that there will be some lighter moments.
When King asked if there would be any laughs in Season 5, Gimple said "Yes absolutely" explaining that it's important for the show to break up the death and grim scenes with a little love and humanity.
"I want to represent the whole of human experience. I don't want to show just horror and misery, because if you just do that, it doesn't mean anything. You need the light. You need humanity. You need love," he said. "You need friendship. Because those are the things that you're trying to maintain amidst these horrors, and when you win, that makes the victories that much more sweet, but when you lose, it makes things much more dark."
Gimple also talked about how long "The Walking Dead" would air on AMC and thankfully said he doesn't see an end to the zombie apocalyptic show happening anytime soon.
"As a comic book, I don't know if it will end. As a TV show, all TV shows end," Gimple told King. "But I will say, I think it's possible that it could go on and on and on. I think if it went ten years... If it went longer than that it's possible that the cast, considering the amount of deaths on this cast and everything else, after ten or twelve years, it could shift into a whole new cast."
Season 5 of "The Walking Dead" premiers on the fall.
