'Watch Dogs' Mod Could Have Negative Effects On Gameplay Despite Increased Graphic Settings

Gamers discovered old render settings in the "Watch Dogs" PC version that have caused some to question if Ubisoft is intentionally "downgrading" their graphics.

Guru3D forums user TheWorse has created a mod to restore the graphics Ubisoft showcased at E3 2012, according to Wired. Though it's being called a "mod," TheWorse didn't alter the game's settings to optimize the render settings.

The modder "turned on" preexisting settings in the game, which made many users question why the "Watch Dogs" developers would release a lower quality title when the graphics codes were already written in.

The "Watch Dogs" team has responded to the allegations in a statement on the game's official website:

"The dev team is completely dedicated to getting the most out of each platform, so the notion that we would actively downgrade quality is contrary to everything we've set out to achieve. We test and optimize our games for each platform on which they're released, striving for the best possible quality. The PC version does indeed contain some old, unused render settings that were deactivated for a variety of reasons, including possible impacts on visual fidelity, stability, performance and overall gameplay quality."

The statement went on to say subjecting your title to the render setting mods could have negative impacts on your gameplay. Gamers could experiences instability in their performances, difficulty in "reading the environment" and more from turning on the "E3" graphics.

According to Wired, TheWorse's mod will increase rain density and light effects, change the depth of field range, new camera options and more. However, gamers are reporting performance issues with the mod.
