Disney CEO Bob Iger teased details about the in-production “Star Wars: Episode VII” during an appearance on CNBC's "Closing Bell.”
Iger couldn’t dish details regarding the film’s plot, but did admit what he’s seen so far is “exciting.”
"The footage we've seen is very, very exciting to us," Iger said. "I think there's about 500 days left between now and December 18th, 2015 when the movie comes out. That doesn't seem like very long."
The production is currently on a two-week hiatus as “Star Wars” actor Harrison Ford needed time to heal from an ankle injury from an on-set accident.
"I can only tell you that production is underway," Iger said. "We had a very brief hiatus ... which is due in part to the fact that Harrison Ford broke his ankle.”
"There's a lot of pent up demand," the CEO added later on in the CNBC interview (via Business Insider). "We're just as excited as the fans are about it."
“Star Wars: Episode VII” stars new cast members Lupita Nyong'o, Gwendoline Christie, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson and Max von Sydow. Original “Star Wars” trilogy actors Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker are also reprising their roles.
However, Simon Pegg might also be involved with the “Star Wars Episode 7” production. Pegg recently spoke to Vulture about visiting the admitted director J.J. Abrams on set, but remained coy about whether he’ll make a cameo in the film.
“Well, J.J. uses me in different roles, and we’re good friends,” Pegg said. “I feel like my face in Star Wars would pop people out of the movie. Look, I love Star Wars, and I don’t want people to watch and go, Oh, there’s Simon Pegg’s face. The film is cleverly cast with these amazing, unknown actors.”
“Of course I visited the set,” Pegg added. “It’s amazing, and I love Star Wars. I want to see everything happening. It looks wonderful, and you need to believe those characters. Any type of stunt casting might just pop you out of the movie.”
“Star Wars Episode 7” will be released to theaters on Dec. 18, 2015.
