Carrie Underwood to Headline Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show?

The Super Bowl is still six months away but there's already rumors about who will perform during the halftime show. According to TerezOwens.com, country star Carrie Underwood could be headlining the event.

"We're being told this year's performer already has serious ties to the National Football League. A few inside sources revealed to us that Carrie Underwood most likely will be doing the super bowl halftime show this year," the site wrote. "Football fans already know her from Sunday Night Football, and country music is more mainstream than ever."

Back in May, "Sunday Night Football" producer Fred Gaudelli announced that the 31-year-old singer would replace Faith Hill, who has sung the show's theme song "Waiting All Day for Sunday" since 2007.

"Carrie Underwood was our first and only choice to perform the Sunday Night Football opening," Gaudelli said in a press release at the time. "She's one of America's most popular entertainers and the perfect fit for our show."

Recently a petition was started on Change.org for "Weird Al" Yankovic to headline the halftime show. As of Tuesday afternoon (Aug. 12) the petition, started by Ed Ball, already had over 122,000 supporters.

"For decades Weird Al has entertained fans, young and old, with his popular clever parodies and unique sense of humor," the petition read. "Having him headline the Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show would not only be overly accepted by the millions of views, but it would remain true to the standards and quality of the show business we have come to love and respect out of this prestigious event."

Ball told The Hollywood Reporter that he started the petition after he heard a suggestion that Justin Bieber should perform.

"I thought, 'Man, this is so crappy,'" he told THR.

In the petition, Ball wrote that celebrities Weird Al parodies could join him on stage to add "more prestige and star power" to the halftime show.

"The theatrics alone would be hilarious and a welcoming change, and draw a wider audience of fans that typically would not tune into the championship game or half-time show," he wrote. "In all honesty, would you rather have Justin Bieber or Miley Cyrus perform the Super Bowl or something different?"

Next year's Super Bowl will be held in Glendale, Ariz. on Feb. 1.
