'Fantastic Four' Cancelled? Marvel Lists 'Triple-Sized Final Issue 645' For Comic Series In 2015

Looks like FOX’s “Fantastic Four” movie franchise might have free reign as to where the storyline will go after 2015.

Bleeding Cool reports a product listing for the “Fantastic Four” comic books lists a “Triple Sized Final Issue 645” for next year. The possible end to the franchise doesn’t come as a surprise, as Marvel has been taking steps to stop promoting “Fantastic Four.”

Marvel CEO Isaac Perlmutter was reportedly upset with FOX Studios regarding negotiations of the film and related rights to “The Fantastic Four” franchise. His alleged anger led to Marvel scrapping merchandise for the comic book series.

However, Marvel sold its “X-Men” franchise to FOX to create a film universe and the comic book series is still intact today.

“The Fantastic Four, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, was first published in 1961 and introduced readers to what would become the modern Marvel Universe,” according to IGN.

“The series has been around in some form or another during that span. It's worth noting that the series has been cancelled and rebooted on occasion, so it's not outside the realm of possibility for it to be launched with a new #1 somewhere down the line.”

The rumors come on the heels of the “Fantastic Four” movie production. FOX tapped Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell to take on the superhero crew in a reboot of the film franchise.

Jordan, who plays the Human Torch in the upcoming movie, spoke with The New York Daily News about his character and what director Josh Trank has in store for the franchise.

"I've known about this character and playing this role for almost two and a half years now…So when I get all these new questions about how I'm feeling about it, I'm like, 'You know, I'm feeling pretty good about it.'

"…It's something that we kind of willed to happen, which was really important to me and Josh (Trank),” Jordan said regarding his vision of the Human Torch. “We're lucky we had a studio behind us that really supported our ambition and our want for change. Now we have something really epic."

The “Fantastic Four” reboot will be released to theaters on June 19, 2015.
