Amanda Bynes wants the world to know that she was "obviously joking" when she threatened to murder her family in an audio recording that was released over the weekend. On Nov. 15, TMZ posted a shocking clip in which the 28-year-old actress ranted that she wanted to slit her father's throat and burn her mother's house down.
According to "Access Hollywood," Bynes released a statement through her lawyer and said that she would never actually harm her parents.
"I'm sorry I trusted people who clearly were not my friends and capitalized on my illness," Bynes said. "I am doing my best to get better. I am truly sorry for the statement I made. I am sorry for any pain I caused my family and others."
TMZ claims that Bynes' parents wanted the audio released so it could be a wakeup call that she needed professional help. Shortly after the audio was leaked, the former Nickelodeon star also addressed the comments in a series of Twitter rants.
"By the way - I was obviously joking about hurting my family - I straight up don't believe in harming a soul," she said. "I said what I said in jest & if you don't understand that then know I'm in therapy to talk about my dad issues and that will solve my concerns with ppl invading my private life."
"When I said I want @drake to murder my vagina did anyone think I was asking him to actually murder my vagina," Bynes continued. "I think not. So take what I say lightly because I am the nicest girl."
In the audio, which was secretly recorded by one of Bynes' roommates while they were driving around Los Angeles, the former child star said she was fed up with her parents controlling her finances.
"I don't want to shoot my father in the face, and that's why I said I want to like strip for him as a joke," she said. "I want to literally like lead him into a ditch and... I haven't decided how I'd want to murder him, because now I have like this war wound on my face, and I don't believe in murder. Nothing would give me greater pleasure than like, slitting his throat."
She also made scary threats against her mother.
"So like I'm not gonna like ever do such a thing, but like I call my mom and like I threaten to like kill her and I threaten to slit her wrist, and I threaten to like burn down her house," Bynes told her roommates.
