Motarola Droid: Ultra, MAXX and Mini Smartphones Debut at Verizon Wireless Press Event

Verizon and Motorola have unveiled the newest incarnation of the Droid smartphone line at a press event in New York City on Tuesday. The three new devices each focus on a different aspect of smartphones that consumers care about: Thinness, battery life and compactness.

The new droid will feature a 24 percent faster CPU, a 100 percent faster GPU, twice the RAM as its predecessor, a 2-megapixel camera in the front and 10-megapixel camera in the back. According to NBC News, those who are fans of the Google Now voice command system will be able to give the smartphone a command by saying "OK Google Now" and issuing said command.

The new Droid Ultra will be priced at $199. This phone concentrates on being thin, and tall. This device, which will be available in red, is the only one of the three that does not support wireless charging.

Meanwhile the Droid MAXX will be priced at $299 and will focus heavily on battery life. It is 9 percent thinner than last year's Droid MAXXX and measures 8.5 millimeters. It's battery life is designed to boast 48 hours of continuous use without needing a charge. By comparison, the Razr Maxx HD, the previous version of the phone, only has a 32 hour battery life and is nine percent thicker.

Finally, the Droid Mini is priced at $99 and is "compact without compromise." It carries a 4.3-inch display screen. This has been compared by many to the iPhone, making it perfect for those who believe in both an Android operating system and a smaller compact phone over a phablet.

All three phones will feature a few touchless commands. This will enable users to make phone calls and search for directions without ever having to lay a finger on the device. This will be very useful for users who need to be productive and safe behind the wheel.

Pre-orders for all three devices begin on Tuesday and will begin shipping on August 20. Early purchases will receive six months of free Google Music Play All Access service.
