Nicki Minaj has finally responded to DJ Khaled's very public—and very questionable—proposal.
During an interview with Hot 97, a New York radio station, the female rapper revealed that the whole thing was a joke.
"I was shocked just like the rest of the world and I was cracking up laughing with the rest of the world 'cause DJ Khaled is a master at what he does," she said. "Khaled is my brother and Khaled was not serious with that damn proposal, y'all. Please let it go. He was kidding.... He's not attracted to me; he doesn't like me. We're brother and sister. He's a big cuddly bear."
Minaj's response comes after Khaled, her label mate and frequent musical collaboration partner, asked for her hand in marriage during an interview with MTV.
"Nicki Minaj, I'm going to be honest with you; I love you," he said in the video. "I like you, I want you, I want you to be mine. Nicki Minaj, will you marry me?
"[If] you gotta take your time and think about it, I understand," he continued. "But I know I have to be here today to let you know how serious I am and how serious this is to me."
While speculation immediately surfaced that the proposal was a publicity stunt for Khaled's new album, which is set for release in September, onlookers and fans wondered if it was really true when Minaj was spotted out sporting a huge diamond ring.
Khaled also continued fueling the rumor when he again insisted that the proposal was genuine in an interview with Us Weekly. "I want to marry her! I was serious," he said. "She can take her time and think about it. At least she knows how I feel now."
But, alas, the proposal was in fact a joke, and the ring turned out to be one that Minaj had sported once before. It is a rumored gift from boyfriend Safaree Samuels.
