Plans for the fifth season of "Glee" have been up in the air since the death of star Cory Monteith July 13, but now one cast member has confirmed she's leaving the show.
During an interview at the premiere of her new film "Smurfs 2," actress Jayma Mays, who plays guidence counselor and glee club director love interest, Emma Pillsbury, announced that she will not be returning to the FOX hit.
"This is going to be my last season," she said. "I'm finishing up this season, so I'm not sure what direction, and who's coming on and who's not."
Mays is leaving the musical comedy for a new role on the CBS sitcom "The Millers," where she'll star opposite Will Arnett. Mays isn't the only one leaving the Emmy-winning cast. Series regulars Mark Salling, Heather Morris, Amber Riley and Harry Shum Jr. will also not be returning to the show.
Also announced for season five are an appearance by former "American Idol" contestant Adam Lambert and a tribute to the late Monteith in the season's third episode.
"The right thing to do for the show, at least at this point, is to have that character pass," show creator Ryan Murphy said of his plans for Monteith's character Finn Hudson, confirming that they will dedicate a show to the fallen actor. "When we do the tribute episode to that character, we'll have to do it in a way where the castmembers will not have to re-create feelings of grief that they've had -- but do it in an upbeat way."
Murphy also confirmed Monteith's on-screen and off-screen girlfriend Lea Michele will return for another season.
After delaying production following Monteith's death, "Glee" is set to start production in early August and will premiere on FOX on Sept. 26.
