Ian Somerhalder apparently isn't taking the news that he is no longer in the running to play Christian Grey very well. The "Vampire Diaries" actor has always been extremely vocal about his interest in the role. He's said countless times that he thought being cast in "Fifty Shades of Grey" would be a great opportunity for him.
According to several rumors the roles of Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey are extremely coveted roles. It's been said that whoever lands the parts will definitely be bumped up to 'A' list celebrities. Somerhalder obviously knew this. Besides being on "The Vampire Diaries" the actor doesn't have any other big name jobs to his name. He's been in several movies but none have been movie box sellers. To be honest, this role would have been perfect for his career.
Recently the 34-year-old was spotted leaving LAX airport when paparazzi asked Somerhalder about "Fifty shades of Grey," Celebrity Dirty Laundry reports. When one photographer asked the actor who should play the part of the kinky billionaire he responded with: "I don't know, you tell me." He later added that he thought Jim Carrey should be cast.
He was clearly joking about the comedic actor playing Grey but he did look annoyed at the "Fifty Shades" questions. The fact that Somerhalder didn't even want to answer the question isn't like him.
In one interview with Metro Online, he said that he never gets tired of people asking him about the role.
"One can never bored of people asking about a huge project," he said. "Everyone has to realize every guy in Hollywood is up for this role. It could be anyone - that's how it goes."
Earlier in the week US Weekly broke the news that according to a source, E.L. James was telling people at San Diego Comic-Con that the role of Christian Grey would not go to Somerhalder. The magazine also reported that Garrett Hedlund was offered the role but turned it down.
