Fans of the CW's "The Carrie Diaries" were thrilled when the network announced the "Sex and the City" prequel would be getting a second season, and now the show's creator is sharing some storyline secrets.
The biggest? A brand new—and very familiar—character will be joining the cast.
While fans of the popular HBO show know Carrie Bradshaw's best friends to be Charlotte, Samantha and Miranda, those ladies have yet to make an appearance in the prequel—until now.
Producers have cast newcomer Lindsey Gort as Samantha Jones, a character known for being outspoken and always focused on sex.
"I've been waiting to do this since the pilot," executive producer Amy B. Harris told the Hollywood Reporter. "I knew Samantha was the first of the [Sex and the City] characters I was going to introduce, and then I had to pray we found a girl that was exciting."
Harris said she knew right away that Gort was the perfect fit, and started writing her into this season.
"My hope for Carrie [played by AnnaSophia Robb] was that meeting Samantha would embolden her, make her feel a little less tied to responsibility and consequences," she said.
Besides dishing on Carrie's brand new BFF, Harris also weighed in on the character's relationship with on-and-off boyfriend Sebastian, played by Austin Butler. Last season found the couple torn apart by a cheating scandal, but Harris insists that their relationship is far from over.
"Sebastian will be around for sure - and he is not going to let Carrie go easily," she said. "Whether or not she chooses to engage with him or not is yet to be seen. But I would describe [this] as very much the big Carrie relationship, which will probably take a lot of different forms along the way. But he's here to stay."
