Through five seasons, the main characters of AMC's runaway hit show "The Walking Dead" has moved from place to place, desperately seeking out any semblance of security and respite from the dangerous zombie infested world. While this format has led to some dreary critical slides, it has also allowed "The Walking Dead" to transform into one of television's most entertaining shows over the last few years.
But longtime fans of the series shouldn't expect that trend to continue. With Rick Grimes' merry band of Walker killers firmly entrenched in the Alexandria Safe Zone, fans will see the cast as they have never seen them before. That is why season six will present a different type of show.
"Season 6 is much different than the previous seasons," star Norman Reedus, who plays Daryl Dixon, said to Cinema Blend. "It's kind of our group being okay with stability and fighting stability and figuring out if we can actually live with other people."
That is an interesting new dynamic that the show hasn't had time to delve into in years past. Instead, Rick and Co. have been force to combat one enemy after another while constantly fighting for their lives. It's why the group struggled to adjust to normalcy during their stay in Alexandria last season. You could clearly see the divide between them and the walled-in survivors with each group having their own ideas about to get by in this new world. Reedus, who may have accidentally revealed a major spoiler for season six, says that divide will be further explored this year.
"You've taken a bunch of wild animals and put them in a domestic environment, and some of them prefer to be wild animals, and some of them can't figure out how to be anything other than that," Reedus told Entertainment Weekly.
We know that season six will include internal struggle and time jumps. Now we know that the tone and challenges placed in front of the main characters will be different as well.
"The Walking Dead" will return on Oct. 11.
