Coming off the unveiling of the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, Samsung is reportedly gearing up to announce a curved display smartphone known as the Galaxy Round. If the rumors are true the South Korean Tech Giant continues to be on the cutting edge with bold new technological innovations.
Samsung has already filed for a trademark for the Galaxy Round name itself. The filing itself doesn't mean much however a recent report claims the phone would offer specs similar to those found in the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 but with a flexible plastic display that can bend and contort and still work.
A Korean news site Asiae reported Sunday about the reveal. According to CNET, which did a Google translation of the story, mentions Oct. 10 as the possible unveiling date. However, no one is yet sure if this will actually be the day that the company decides to announce to new technology.
"We plan to introduce a smartphone with a curved display in South Korea in October," D.J. Lee, Samsung's mobile business head of strategic marketing, said to Reuters at an event launching the Galaxy Note 3 smartphone.
While the technology behind the display is flexible, obviously the phone itself will not be able to contort and still work. It is a fixed shape. The body of the device is fixed and does not move. However, the display will be curved in order to fit the contours of user's hands more easily.
LG is also gearing up a flexible display smartphone called the G Flex. It looks like, if rumors of the LG device are true, Samsung will be beating the company to the curved display market.
