After a rocky opening week, Rockstar Games is still having trouble with freezing, crashing and various other glitches preventing users from experiencing the game as planned. Now, the company has issued another warning on its support page having to do with online characters getting lost.
"We have received reports from some players who experienced losing characters, progress, items, and/or in-game cash during the first few days after release," it reads. "We are working diligently to identify and correct the causes for these losses, as well as to establish how best to restore any lost progress and value."
There is currently no word yet on what is causing the issue or what the company plans to do to fix it. An update to the original post on the matter added: "We are continuing to investigate the causes of the lost progress and what can be done to minimize the impact until a permanent fix is in place. Also, we have not forgotten about the requests for restoration. We are in the process of determining the options for addressing the issues for those players who have been affected."
Alongside this, however, IGN reports that Rockstar has issued several bits of advice about how to minimize the risk of losing your character or your game progress. First the developer has urged everyone to exit the game through the pause menu and select the return to single player option. In addition users should avoid selecting "Retry" should they receive the message "Rockstar Cloud Servers are unavailable" as doing so may cause a loss of character data. If you encounter this message when trying to access the game, your advised to exit to Story Mode and to then attempt to re-enter Online through the pause menu. It's important to note that none of these methods are guarantees.
This is a high priority problem for Rockstar and it will likely push out an update to fix the problem relatively soon. Until then users can only wait and hope for the best.
