GTA Online Glitch: Rockstar Tells Gamers What To Do If Your Character Goes Missing

Over the weekend Rockstar Games started receiving reports that people who had made progress on a character in its latest foray into multiplayer, "GTA Online." Now the company has come out with some advice on what players should do if they find themselves missing a character.

The main thing to remember is not to create a new character if you find your old one missing. Rockstar recomends you simply return to Story Mode and then re-enter GTA Online through the pause menu. This only applies with then Rockstar Cloud Servers are working. If you encounter a message saying the servers are unavailable, simply keep trying until they're up and running again. Do not continue online with saving disabled as this may overwrite your character, according to reports from IGN.

"If you have previously created a character but see an empty character selection screen when entering GTA Online, please back out to GTAV Story Mode and try re-entering GTA Online through the pause menu (repeat or wait until Rockstar cloud servers are back up). Do not create a new character in the empty slot where your character should be," the update says. "If you receive the message 'The Rockstar Cloud Servers Are Unavailable', please return to GTAV Story Mode and follow the steps above. Please do not press 'Retry' on the message and do not proceed online with saving disabled, as this may lead to overwriting your existing character."

Rockstar responded to the complaints on Monday and said that it is currently working on a method to fix the problem. There's no word yet as to whether or not the company will be pushing an update or addition to the software to fix this problem. However, it's unlikely that the steps mentioned above will be the final word on this problem from such a high profile gaming title. "Grand Theft Auto V" has become the fastest selling game in the U.K. and has shattered sales records for its predecessor in just three weeks.
