Rockstar Games has announced that it is giving all those who play its new multiplayer experience "GTA Online" half a million in in-game cash as compensation for the multiple launch issues the game has suffered since it opened up to the public on Oct. 1.
Since its launch, the game has experienced everything from login errors, crashes and freezes. In addition people have suffered the random vanishing of their customized vehicles. However, the most egregious glitch was one that saw some user's characters, including progress and rank, disappear for no foreseeable reason.
The money will be given to anyone who played Grand Theft Auto Online during the game's opening month. The cash will come in two deposits of $250,000 each in order to avoid destabilizing the fragile in-game economy, according to IGN.
Rockstar has yet to confirm exactly when it plans on giving out the money to players but the studio is hopeful that the first payment will arrive to players by next week. The company wants to confirm that the patch it pushed recently to resolve the issue of deleted characters is successful. The second installment should arrive before the end of October.
The announcement reads: "For players who experienced cloud server errors, connection issues, and lost game progress and characters in these first days of GTA Online, we hope this GTA$ helps to facilitate a fresh start or makes your continued life in Los Santos and Blaine County extra sweet."
In order to take advantage of this offer, you will have needed to play GTA Online during the month of October. Additionally, you'll need to install a new title update (1.04) due for release sometime next week. This update should sort the issue that's causing vehicles to disappear.
Rockstar warned gamers prior to the launch of GTA Online that it might experience some technical difficulties like this, however the company's warning doesn't seem to be enough to sooth disgruntled players. Hopefully for the developer not only will the cash make people less upset but the fixes will help its new multiplayer run smoothly.
