The red cups have caused many to see red. The plain Starbucks holiday cups have made quite the impression, with netizens everywhere taking sides. Now, Dunkin' Donuts has created its seasonal cup and the internet is beginning to notice.
On Tuesday, DDs released a holiday coffee cup that is white with a green and red holiday design of pine boughs and says "Joy" in red letters, according to Right Wing News.
The Dunkin' Donuts cup doesn't actually say "Merry Christmas," but it seems to have been well received by the public. However, social media users wonder if it was a deliberate attack on Starbucks plain red cup, reported USA Today.
"For many years, Dunkin' Donuts has served coffee in festive cups featuring the word 'joy' as part of our annual celebration of the season and holiday offerings," Scott Hudler, a VP for Dunkin' Brands, said in a statement, according to Fox 5 NY. "We believe this conveys the happiness and spirit of the holiday season in a way that resonates with our guests."
Starbucks hasn't officially responded to the Dunkin' Donuts holiday coffee cup, but they are standing firmly behind their own. "We're embracing the simplicity and the quietness of it. It's a more open way to usher in the holiday," said Jeffrey Fields, the VP of design and content at Starbucks.
