After weeks of rumors and speculation, Google has yet to give any concrete information about the highly anticipated Nexus 5 smartphone. However, the company has indirectly acknowledged the existence of the device according to a post on the Google Play Store.
The device appeared right where you'd expect, next to the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10. It came with a caption that read: "Capture the everyday and the epic in fresh new ways."
Google had the price for the device listed at $349. Unfortunately, when anyone tried to click on the device to purchase or pre-order it, the page wouldn't load. Not long after the phone appeared on the Google Play Store, it was replaced by the older Nexus 4 model.
Rumors have been circulating for the past few weeks about what Google might pack into the upcoming Nexus 5. Supposedly the device will debut sometime within the month and be among the firs to sport the new Android 4.4 KitKat,
The phone has been priced anywhere from $299 to $399 for the 16GB and $449 for the 32G.
Google has stayed relatively quiet about its plans for the Nexus 5, meaning that most of what is supposedly known about the smartphone has come from leaks and rumors throughout the tech industry. However, there is a lot of physical evidence that the smartphone will be coming sometime this month. For example, some of the first third-party cases for the device were spotted on Google+. Accessory makers are eager to get in on the action. Several Nexus 5 cases are on sale at Amazon with the retailer saying they'll arrive in stock on Oct. 30, Oct 31 and November 2, according to CNET.
It's unclear if the Nexus 5's inclusion on the Google Play Store was some kind of accident or tease, but for now users should get ready for the device's upcoming release in the next weeks, likely with a bit more fanfare than a quiet release to the Google Play Store.
