Amazon released new video demonstrating its latest drone prototype for its Prime Air service - a future delivery system for Amazon that will make use of unmanned aircrafts in bringing packages to customers.
Amazon described the drone, detailing that it weighs 25 kilograms and is capable of carrying packages weighing up to a little over two kgs. It flies under 400 feet and has a feature called "sense and avoid" in order to avoid collisions with obstacles while in flight toward or when landing in an area, USA Today reported.
"We're excited about Prime Air...Prime Air has great potential to enhance the services we already provide to millions of customers by providing raid parcel delivery," Amazon said on its website, according to International Business Times.
In the video, it can be seen how the drone works and how it communicates with the customer. When it approaches the destination, it sends the customer an alert, and the customer has to approve the landing before the drone lowers itself, drops the package, and then flies back up again.
Amazon has not given a time frame on when Prime Air services would be made available.
"Putting Prime Air into service will take some time. We will deploy when we have the regulatory support needed to realize our vision," Amazon stated, according to CNN Money.
