Netflix has offered a practical solution for people who easily doze off after trying to binge-watch their favorite TV shows - DIY Smart socks that pause a show whenever they detect that the wearer has fallen into a deep sleep.
The online streaming media has provided detail instructions on how to create these socks on its official website. "Never again will you binge-watch yourself to sleep, only to wake up two seasons later wondering what happened," the instructions read.
Netflix begins its instructions with the making of the socks themselves, even providing pattern designs inspired from its popular shows "House of Cards" and "Master of None" that the makers can choose from and follow through.
Step two is constructing their electronics. An accelerometer (to detect when feet have stopped moving), IR LEDs (to send a signal to the television) and batteries are some of the many tools needed to create the device, according to CNN Money.
Once the device has been successfully built, it is then placed inside the sock with the use of a felt backing. An additional fabric is then needed to protect the device as well as the skin of the person who will be wearing it.
Fabric tape and stitches are needed to cover the wirings of the device. One can even add a pulse sensor to detect the wearer's heart rate, thus making the device more accurate, the Daily Mail reported.
