An Austin, Texas high school math teacher has been charged with victimizing two male teenager students with nude selfies and sex, according the Daily Caller. Westlake High School's math teacher, Haeli Way resigned in October, when school district officials removed her from her classroom after being alerted to the inappropriate texts she had sent to an underage male student.
One of the students met Wey during the summer through a student ministry program in Africa, according to My San Antonio. The student went on to tell police that he had sex with Wey about 10 times during the months of August and September.
Investigators claim Wey also sent the student photos of herself wearing "next to nothing" and in some cases, nothing. The alleged relationship with this student halted when Wey began hiking with another student.
Wey was in custody as of Thursday afternoon after being booked into the Travis County Jail on $75,000 bail for each count, said the Statesman. According to Texas law, 28-year-old teacher faces up to 20 years in prison for sexual contact between a certified teacher and a student. Wey faces two counts of improper relationship between an educator and a student.
The Texas Education Agency reports that since Sept. 1, 41 cases of improper relations between a teacher and student have been reported. In 2014, 188 cases were reported. Education experts fear the growing trend could be related to the growing off-campus contact between students and teachers via text messaging and social media.
