Cookie cutters are so much more than they seem. Yes, they'll help you make perfectly-shaped Christmas cookies every year, much to the delight of everyone who gets to eat them. However, there are dozens of other amazing ways to make use of those cookie cutters, says Gourmandize. Don't let yours sit unused in your cupboard all year waiting for Christmas — here are our five favorite non-cookie uses for cookie cutters:
1. French Toast or Pancakes: Make your breakfast extra pretty! For French toast, cut the bread into fancy shapes with cookie cutters before dipping into the batter and cooking. For pancakes, first make sure your cookie cutters are heat-safe, then stick a few in a greased pan. Pour a little batter into each one and, when you see bubbles on the surface, give it a flip. Finish cooking and then pop the pancakes out of the molds and onto a plate.
2. Jell-O Shots: They don't have to be the cloyingly-sweet, bracingly-alcoholic Jell-O shots popular in fraternities. Semi-solid Jell-O cut-outs made with cookie cutters will surely impress guests. Here's a list from Oregon Live that will change your mind about alcohol and Jell-O.
3. Greeting Cards: If you want to make a personalized card that looks professional and unique, follow the tutorial on We Lived Happily Ever After. Cookie cutters help you stay inside the lines and create shapes out of handwritten text.
4. Pizza: Pizza is pretty much the most widely-loved food out there, and the only way to make it even more lovable is to make it from scratch and use cookie cutters to shape the dough into creative mini-pizzas. Here's a fantastic recipe for pizza dough from Kayotic Kitchen.
5. Soap: Making homemade soap is much easier than it seems, and it makes for a beautiful holiday gift. Use cookie cutters so the soap will be in a fun shape. Then customize colors and scents according to your taste, and add special ingredients like herbs or oils to make the soap extra lovely. See the Latika Soap tutorial to learn how to do it.
