Keeping it all in the family! A year after silencing rumors that claimed him and wife, Blake Lively, named their daughter Violent - Ryan Reynolds is defending his and Lively's decision to name their firstborn daughter James.
The 39-year-old "Deadpool" actor sat down with Good Morning Britain on Friday, where he was asked about the meaning behind her name. Although co-host Kate Garraway referred to Reynolds' daughter name as "unusual," the actor insisted that he and Lively were not trying to "[break] any new ground" by naming their daughter James, which is traditionally a boy's name.
"In the spectrum of weird celebrity baby names, I feel like we're not really breaking any new ground here. I mean, I didn't call her Summer Squash Meadow Lark, or something," he said about his now 13-month-old daughter.
Reynolds jokingly added, "I also thought of all the letters being silent in her name, so it would be just be 'Haa,'"
However, Reynolds admitted that naming their daughter James was met as a tribute to the actor's father, James Reynolds, who lost his 20-year battle to Parkinson's last October at the age of 74. Reynolds, who is currently promoting his latest film, "Deadpool," also called fatherhood "super fun," but said he knows he's not in a unique situation.
"She's teething at the moment. I love being a father," he said. "For everyone that does it's the most common thing in the world and yet it's also the most profound so it's this weird paradox. I don't want to be one of those celebs who talks about being a parent like they're the only person in the world who has ever done it. It's the most common thing in the world but the most profound. It's super fun. I just love it."
Reynolds and Lively have kept the birth date of his daughter private until December 16, 2014, when the proud dad wished his daughter a Happy Birthday, writing on Twitter, "Happy birthday to my baby girl! Sad I lost my virginity. But thankful I have a daughter."
"Deadpool" will be released on February 12, 2016. View the trailer below.
