***SPOILER ALERT*** The remainder of this article contains spoilers for last night's episode of "Family Guy."
Seth MacFarlane's flagship animated Fox comedy made a bold move on last night's episode in order to shake up the series. The show's creators previously alluded to a major change at this year's Comic Con that finally came to fruition with the death of Brian Griffin, the family's talking dog character.
Brian was hit by a car as he prepared to play in the street with the baby Stewie. Although the baby-genius tried to use his time machine to fix him, Brian's injuries were too severe and the episode ended with Brian passing away. Since the episode IGN reports at least half a dozen fans have launched petitions demanding that the Griffin family's dog be brought back to life in the series. Fans are clearly reacting negatively to the passing of a character that has been with the show for 11 seasons.
The biggest petition can be found on Change.org from a Family Guy fan named Aaron Thompson of Tuscaloosa, Al. In less than 24 hours, it has gained 1,500 signatures making it the fastest growing entertainment-related petition on the sight right now.
"Brian Griffin was an important part of our viewing experience. He added a witty and sophisticated element to the show. Family Guy and Fox Broadcasting will lose viewers if Brian Griffin is not brought back to the show."
"This was an idea that got pitched in the writers' room and it sort of caught fire, and we thought it could be a fun way to shake things up," executive producer Steve Callaghan told E! News.
