Grant Gustin speeds onto "Supergirl" for the first crossover event between the CBS drama and The CW's "The Flash." The lightening-fast superhero arrives in National City from an alternate universe and needs Kara's help to get back home.
In exchange, Kara (Melissa Benoist) will recruit The Flash to help battle two of her biggest foes - Siobhan aka Silver Banshee (Italia Ricci) and Livewire (Brit Morgan). DC Entertainment is promoting the March 28 crossover event with a special comic book cover featuring the two superheroes in a foot race for the ages.
"Who is the fastest person alive? Read... 'The Race Between Supergirl & The Flash,'" the cover reads.
"The Flash" has previously crossed over with The CW's "Arrow" multiple times in its first two seasons, and it helped to launch The CW latest superhero series, "DC's Legends of Tomorrow," featuring characters first introduced on the network's other DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television shows.
Greg Berlanti serves as an executive producer on all three series as well as CBS's "Supergirl." He and Andrew Kreisberg, who is also an executive producer for all four shows, touted the cross-network crossover episode last month, thanking "fans and journalists" who asked for Kara Danvers and Barry Allen to team up.
"We are so incredibly excited to announce something that we have dreamed of happening since we started making 'Supergirl' - 'The Flash' and 'Supergirl' are teaming up!" Berlanti and Kreisberg said in a joint press release.
"We want to thank Grant Gustin for making the time to come visit (on top of his already immense workload) and all of the folks at CBS, The CW, Warner Bros. and DC for working this out. And finally, thanks to the fans and journalists who have kept asking for this to happen. It is our pleasure and hope to create an episode worthy of everyone's enthusiasm and support."
On Monday, CBS CEO Les Moonves announced that the network's five new shows, including "Supergirl," would likely receive a second season renewal for fall 2016. CBS already gave two more seasons to long-running drama "NCIS."
"Supergirl" and "The Flash" will crossover on Monday, March 28 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
