'Attack On Titan' Game Gets Costume DLC [VIDEO]

As fans eagerly await the second season for the critically-acclaimed anime "Attack on Titan," or "Shingeki no Kyojin" in Japan, gamers with similar interests have gotten their appetites sated, for the time being, with the release of some themed costume DLC for Koei Tecmo's "Attack on Titan" video game.

The costumes in question are Christmas-themed, and while its fun to watch Erin run around in a reindeer costume or Mikasa fight while dressed as Santa's helper, the timing is odd, considering that it's March right now.

Koei Tecmo first revealed the costumes in a stream on Wednesday, showing off members of the cast engage in a holiday-themed battle against their monstrous foes, but the costumes weren't formally released until a day later at 350 yen apiece. A larger costume pack bundle is slated for release on March 17 and will cost 1,200 yen, representing a 200 yen discount over getting each costume separately. A weapon set that includes a Christmas tree, Santa boots and Christmas cake is an additional 350 yen.

There were other costumes unveiled at the stream as well, but the Christmas-themed ones, considering the timing and the theme of the game, were the clear takeaway. These costumes add to the evergrowing library of costumes that the game features, which includes alternate costumes in the base game and kimono DLC.

It's unclear how well these costumes will do in terms of reception and sales, but considering the commercial success of the game, which was called into question at first due to concerns about how the Three Dimensional Maneuver Gear would be implemented, it seems like it will do just fine.

All that remains to be seen is when the Koei Tecmo will bring the "Attack on Titan" game to the West. In August of last year, the game was officially revealed in a teaser trailer that confirmed a 2016 release for the upcoming game in Japan, the U.S. and Europe. It's not uncommon for games to be released in Japan only to be released several months later elsewhere.

However, with a February release in Japan and no word on a release date elsewhere, many have begun to wonder whether it will arrive in the West at all. However, with a solid fan base around the globe and a reported 50 million comic sales, the decision to keep the game exclusive to Japan would be foolhardy at best.
